A not so fabulous testament to my cooking

Okay, I think I am going to be banned from the world of blogging, but we have been busy, fill in your own excuses here….anyway, our life has been full of all kinds of things.  So I am just going to pick up at a dinner conversation from the other night.

Okay, so here was the conversation as the kids were setting the table for dinner the other night.

Sophie:  Mitchell, do you believe this is chicken?

Mitchell, as he is staring at his plate intently:  No, Sophie.  I do not believe this is chicken.

Were they in court? J

Sophie:  Me either.  Are you going to eat it?

Mitchell:  Yes, are you?

Sophie:  Mom said it was chicken, so I am going to try just a bite of it, but it looks gross!

Mitchell:  I agree; it does look gross.

They both ate it, and enjoyed it.  Mitchell had two helpings.  By the way it was King Ranch Chicken that I had cooked…yummy, especially on a cold day!  I will try to be better at blogging…Christmas break is coming up soon!  YAY!

Happy Birthday, Sophie!

This post is one day late, but this is the first time I have had the chance to sit and collect my thoughts about her birthday yesterday.  Forgive me if they come out jumbled.  She turned 7 yesterday!!!  We did whatever she wanted all day long…she got to pick where we ate, what we did, just about everything about the day was all about Sophie!  Where has the time gone?!?!  It seemed like just yesterday the doctor said…would you like to have this baby tomorrow or the next day?  She was breech, so he had to do a c-section.  I just remember sitting there thinking…WHAT?  Um, which day should I go for…August 30th or 31st.  It was a Wednesday when he said that, and I thought…Friday seems good…that way I’ll get to go home on Labor Day Monday.  Thursday at the hospital was “booked”, so Friday it was.  Matthew and I went out to dinner the Thursday before she was born.  Our conversations had always been about the baby…but it was like…Wow, this time tomorrow we will have a baby!  It was a really exciting and anxious feeling.  Matthew even went to work for half a day on Friday.  We were living with my parents because our house was having remodeling issues, so we didn’t even get to bring her home to our house.  She didn’t mind!  🙂
Seven years…she is the light of my world.  Her little laugh, the way she treats her brother, her voice singing, her feet dancing, her little hands coloring…one of her favorite things to do.  I love it all.  I cannot believe that God blessed me with this little girl to love.  I have so many dreams for her ( and Mitchell).  I want them to follow their dreams.  Sophie still wants to be a ballet teacher, and today Mitchell wants to be a race car driver.  The night before she was born, I didn’t sleep hardly any because my mind was too full of all kinds of thoughts.  I still have all kinds of hopes and thoughts for them…but most times I can sleep.  🙂

Happy birthday to our little dancer, Sophie!!!  We love you!!!

From 10 pounds to 48 pounds!

Today Mitchell turned 5.  He woke up at 6:30 this morning and was ready to go!  He has spent the day doing all kinds of fun stuff, and I have spent the day remembering this day 5 years ago.  I have almost cried several times during the day just thinking back.  He was born on a Monday, and for some reason that just makes today seem even more special…I’m not sure why.  Anyway, he had donuts for breakfast, then it was off for his 5-year Well-Child check.  The pediatrician said he is perfectly healthy!  He is 48 and 1/4 pounds and 44 inches tall.  He was current on all of his immunizations, so no shots!  Yay!  We came back home and opened up all of his gifts.  All he wanted was CARS, Hummers, and Wii stuff.  Then, we went swimming.  He and Sophie love to go swimming.  I used to enjoy it more…but now the shade is my friend!  Tonight he got to pick where he wanted to go to dinner and then dessert.  He wanted Joe’s Crab Shack and Cold Stone Creamery.  Who could argue with Cold Stone?!?  No one in our family!  I think he had a fun day.  I hope so.

I thought all day about how big he is getting.  He will start school in the fall, and I just can hardly bear it!  Everyone teases me, but to me he will always be my newborn baby.  When he was first born, he was not a tiny little thing like other babies.  To me he was small…I mean he was still a newborn baby after all, but to others he looked like he was 2-3 months old.  People would ask me how old he was, and I would say however old he was….the reply was always….He’s SO big!!  Well…what do you say to that?  Thanks?  He came that way?  I got somewhat used to it…anyway…  Now, he is the big 5!  He loves to play like he is a dog and Sophie is his owner…odd, but funny!  He even has a name…Speck.  He likes to run “super fast”.  He wants to drive a Hummer, and he can spot an H2 or an H3.  He cracks me up with the things he says and does.  He loves to play tennis with his daddy and Sophie.  I love to watch Sophie and Mitchell play.  They are the joy in my life.  When he is sleeping I still see his baby face.  When he gets an owie, he still wants his mommy to kiss it.  He is starting to pray at dinner.  I love to hear him say his prayers at night (Sophie, too); I think it is the sweetest ever.  I know this was all about Mitchell, but it is his birthday, and he only turns five once!  Happy birthday, my little prince!

By the way…Sophie’s birthday is August 31, so although I do plan on posting before then…you can plan on a definite post on 8/31!  Hee Hee Hee!

April 1

I have to admit that I cannot stand April Fool’s Day…why?  Because I am the one who always falls for the tricks people play.  Gullible…slightly!  I can remember like it was yesterday in 3rd grade, when the teacher from next door came into our class and told us that for the rest of the year, she and our real teacher were trading places.  I mean really, who would fall for that!  Me!  I remember other years teachers switching the outlines on the boards of the order of the day, and I would walk into class, and think we don’t have lunch first!  Other classes they would have lists of all kinds of work and projects to do that couldn’t possibly be done in one day!  My little child mind would be in complete agony until the teacher said, “April Fool’s Day!”  It was like the other kids didn’t fall for it, they were going on like it was no big deal.  I ALWAYS fell for the teacher’s tricks.  Then, as I got older, the teachers would announce a test… what?  we don’t have a test today!  Then, someone would say, “Duh!  It’s Aprils Fool’s!”  I have only pulled off one measly successful April Fool’s prank, and that was only telling my dear friend Marci that my parents had just bought a Volvo.  She believed me – for like a minute.  So, I still count it; however, I still feel terribly guilty for lying!  So, to all of you people playing tricks today, I am aware that it is April Fool’s, and I will not be deceived…hopefully! March in Review

Okay-so I know my last post was March 12th, but I feel like I have skipped over so much stuff that has happened this month, and by the next time I make a post it will probably be April!  Sit down with your beverage of choice and make yourself comfy…it’s lengthy.  So here goes our March in Review in no particular order:

·         We flew to Dallas to celebrate Matthew’s grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary!  It was so special because all of his family (minus 2) was present to celebrate.  His grandparents are so sweet.  They are still so happy and in love!  What a legacy to follow!  It was great to see everyone!

·         Easter in Amarillo.  Lauren C.’s Grammy invited us over for an Egg Hunt/Easter Party on the Saturday before Easter.  The kids had a blast.  No child was over the age of 6, so it was a really sweet time watching the kids running all over the yard…especially when they were chasing the dads everywhere.  Fun times!  Any comments from the dads if they were sore on Easter from Freeze Tag and Red Light/Green Light?  I personally think it should be an annual tradition!  J

·         I have been involved in BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) now for 2 months.  This has done so much for helping me with my personal goal of self-discipline.  We meet once a week and go over the Bible Study for the week.  It is really amazing to be with other women and just listen and share what God is doing and what we have learned over the week.  I say it has helped with my self-discipline because there is no way you can complete the lessons the night before BSF!  Well, I guess you could, but it’s meant to have something every day for you to learn, and this is just what I had needed.

·         I finished reading my book having a Mary Heart in a Martha World.  This is a great book, and I highly recommend it.  It is about”Finding Intimacy with God in the Busyness of Life”.  Busyness of life—sound familiar to anyone?  It is authored by Joanna Weaver.  I actually stumbled upon it in Mardel.  It’s not hard for me to stumble upon books though, I love to read.  Here is an excerpt from p.2 that caught my attention and I thought “That’s me!”, so I bought the book.

Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World.  The thought intrigues you.  Deep inside you there is a hunger, a calling, to know and love God.  To truly know Jesus Christ and the fellowship of the Spirit.  You’re not after more head knowledge—it’s heart-to-heart intimacy you long for.

Yet a part of you hangs back.  Exhausted, you wonder how to find the strength or time.  Nurturing your spiritual life seems like on more duty—one more thing to add to a life that is spilling over with responsibilities.

It’s almost as if you’re standing on the bottom rung of a ladder that stretches up to heaven.  Eager but daunted, you name the rungs with spiritual things you know you should do:  study the Bible, pray, fellowship…

“He’s up there somewhere,” you say, swaying slightly as you peer upward, uncertain how to begin or if you even want to attempt the long, dizzy climb.  But to do nothing means you will miss what your heart already knows:  There is more to this Christian walk that you’ve experienced.  And you’re just hungry enough—just desperate enough—to want it all.

Luke 10:38-42 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.  She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.  But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.  She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself?  Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha, “the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed.  Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Parts of the book have been read and reread, marked and underlined.  I will need to write another separate post on all I have learned, but let me just say for now, that I am just so happy to know that I can have a Mary heart and sit at the feet of Jesus even thought there is always so much to do!

·         Sophie still loves Kindergarten and thinks it is the best thing ever!  She still doesn’t like waking up early, but it’s March, and I think she’s finally getting used to it!  She loves ballet and is practicing for her recital in May.  She practices in her room, but stops if she thinks anyone is watching.   She is really very graceful when she is dancing.  I love to secretly watch her dance, and listen to her sing.  She is very artistic.

·         Mitchell grew literally overnight.  He woke up one day, and I had laid his clothes out.  He came in all dressed saying…adjust me! Adjust me!  He wanted me to loosen the adjustable waist of his pants.  The problem-they weren’t tightened any.  Then, he put his shoes on.  Ouch mom!  My toes are touching the end!  Pants and shoes…too small…literally overnight!  He loves gymnastics.  His favorite is an eagle roll—a forward roll with no hands.  I must admit, I think he’s pretty good.

·         Matthew started playing in a tennis league.  He loves tennis, and I am so glad he gets to go out and play.  He loves to take the kids out on the weekend to play.  This summer he said he would teach them actual tennis lessons.  They love to play.  Maybe I’ll even get a new pretty racquet and start hitting that tennis ball a little better myself!

·         I got a Facebook page that I have never even touched!   I don’t know why I have one.  I don’t know how it works.  I am honestly too busy playing Webkinz to mess with it.  Yes, I admit it, my kids have Webkinz, but I earn them most of their KinzCash after they are in bed.  Sad, yes, but true.  If I don’t get to play, I go through withdrawals.  It is not good.  Moving on…

·         Random words that are also a part of our March:  sickness, health, church, birthday parties, families, friends, SoLuxe, Reality TV, Food Network, Peanut Butter icing, BU Women’s Network, JL, Cheesecake Factory, my niece and pedicures,  LOVE
